Ardgay & District Community Council update

At our March meeting we welcomed Amanda Coghill, Development Officer from North Highlands & Islands climate Hub (www.nhclimatehub.co.uk) who have been funded by the Scottish Government for three years with a remit to engage with existing climate projects throughout the region and help other groups embed climate action in their activities. They will also encourage community groups to start new projects such as tool libraries, repair cafes and community growing projects. They are co-ordinating the Highland Climate Festival which will take place throughout the region from 25th June to 3rd July. Look out for details of events in our area!

Our May meeting was held in person in Ardgay Hall for the first time in more than two years. We will consider using zoom for guest speakers or those unable to attend in person and of course for the winter months it remains a useful option. We welcomed newly elected councillor Michael Baird who will be attending future meetings in his role of Highland Councillor.

Windfarm Updates:

The development at Sallachy has been consented by The Highland Council. Local community councils Ardgay & District, Creich and Lairg have been in discussions with the developer for several years, latterly together with North West Sutherland Communities and Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, about the possibility of entering a shared ownership agreement. Perhaps we are now one step closer?

Meall Buidhe (Croick): the developer has produced further photomontages available on their website www.meallbuidhewindfarm.co.uk

Achany extension: Additional information is available re proposed changes to the application following discussions with The Highland Council. These are available on a USB stick.

Community Benefit Awards

The Community Council approved the following awards: in March, £700 to Creich, Croick and Kincardine Day-Care association towards music & movement and alternative treatments and ongoing support to KoSDT Helping Hands Fund. In May, The Hub £660 for Jubilee celebrations and Culrain Hall Committee: £350 for Jubilee celebrations.
