There is still time to give your views on the location of a new playpark in the village.
On Sunday 22nd September, Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust had a stand at the Communities Day held at the Hub. As part of the display, they held an informal activity to gain feedback from local people about a proposed playpark development in Bonar Bridge. It was explained that part of the current playpark in Carnmhor Rd had been condemned by the Highland Council and was not going to be replaced. KoSDT aims to redevelop the park (subject to funding) but is also considering alternative locations.
The children and adults who took part were invited to vote for their preferred location by ‘investing’ a monopoly banknote in one of the three sites. People were also invited to propose a completely new location if they could think of one.
Here’s how people voted:
- Option 1. Current location, Carnmhor Rd – received 19 votes.
- Option 2. Proposed site near Bonar Bridge Primary school, Football Pitch & Golf Club – received 26 Votes.
- Option 3. Alternative new location received two votes, but no suggestions of where this should be were given.
Here are some of the comments that were received: “No parking at current site.” “Would be really worried about the land in the current site being left.” “Playpark in village or taking kids out of village itself. Is there an option for both? What would happen to the land?” “A park within the village would be an asset to the village. It would be used more, encourage independence in children, promote health and bring more people into the village.”
KoSDT is still exploring funding opportunities to be able to develop the park, and a decision hasn’t been made yet; so in the meantime, if you would like to vote on the location of the new playpark please send an email with your comments. Alternatively call 01863 766190.
