The Kyle of Sutherland Community Food larder has new premises and is now the Community Bothy. The Community Food Stop will re-open on Monday 21st March.
In 2021 the wee KoSDT Food Larder supported 3414 adults and 802 children from our community over the course of the year. The current cost of living crisis is driving up demand, so we are now moving the service into a bigger and better premises. The new Kyle of Sutherland free Community Food Bothy had its big grand opening on Friday 4th of March. The new premises will not only address issues surrounding food insecurity but, as we have a seating area in the Bothy, it will also help to address issues surrounding social isolation. Our customers will be encouraged to stay and have a cup of tea and a chat with us. The great thing is that it’s right next door to the old Larder so there’s no chance of anyone getting lost!
As excited as we are about the new premises, it really is sad that we need such a thing in 21st century Britain but demand for support is going through the roof at the moment. We’ll always do what we can to help those who need it but hopefully someday we’ll be celebrating the closure of the service. It may be wishful thinking, but we have to believe that things will get better in the future!
As you will be aware, due to the pandemic, we have been unable to deliver our popular Community Food Stop in Bonar Bridge Community Hall since March 2020. However, as restrictions are now starting to relax the Food Stop will be re-opening to the public on Monday the 21st March. The Food Stop will continue to be delivered by KoSDT staff and our wonderful group of local volunteers. We will look forward to welcoming you all back. As a result of the Food Stop re-opening, we will now be moving the Walk and Talk group from a Monday to a Thursday morning. Please see the activity programme for further details.
