The group was formed in 2016 with the aim of promoting both the central area within the NC500 route for tourism and businesses (tourism related or not) that are located there. We have a small but dedicated committee of local tourism operators, and a current membership of 81 businesses.
Most of our work is based around the use of social media using posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instragram to promote the best of the local area and the group’s website. From images of scenic views and impressive wildlife shots, promoting local events and activities to posts showing the day to day life of our members we aim to show visitors what there is to see and do in the area. In 2018 we filmed and launched a series of promotional films which also featured some of our business members, with our main tourism video reaching over 45,000 people.
Throughout the year we host a range of events and activities for members, local residents and visitors to attend, some to raise funds for the group: from quiz nights, afternoon teas, and training opportunities in conjunction with Business Gateway, to others like litter picking sessions to help improve the local area.
From October 2019 we have launched a two-tiered membership system, offering a full membership for £25 per year or a basic free listing. Our full membership offers a full listing on our website including photos, description and contact details and a link to the member’s own website. They receive a welcome message on social media, feature as “business of the month” during the year, and can share posts, images and events via our social media pages. If you have a business located within our boundaries we would love to welcome you to the group. to find out more visit www.heartofsutherland.co.uk or email our secretary.
