The team at the Lairg Learning Centre is focusing on the food we eat and the environment
If you’re interested in learning more about your food and its impact on our environment then sign up for the Climate Aware Food Choices Workshop by Croft Carbon College on June 17th. Additionally, to learn how to cut down your personal food waste join our Love Food Hate Waste Workshop hosted by Changeworks on June 22nd.
For those who are looking to up their gardening game, then join our Growing Through the Seasons Series. If you missed some of our past growing workshops you can go to our Youtube page to watch recordings of the Get Into Growing Series with Thurso Grows and our Introduction to Home Composting Workshop with Emma Armstrong.
This year we have been appreciating all the incredible lochs and walks throughout Sutherland. Photography is a creative way to experience your local area from a new perspective. To talk about his experience as a wildlife photographer, we have David Boag hosting a lecture about the Wonder of Water on June 16th.
Another exciting project we are working towards is launching the Girls on Boards programme. This series will get young girls and teenagers out on paddle boards to learn to trust their bodies and build confidence while learning a new skill. Using paddle boarding as a tool, the programme will focus on participants’ mental and physical health by allowing young girls to feel confident to get out on the water in the local area and get to know their community and their peers in a new way. We are hoping to offer women’s programmes as well. If you’re interested in learning more follow Sutherland Girls on Boards on Facebook and Instagram or email.
We have some fantastic ongoing workshops like our Garment of the Month Series where our sewing tutor, Jo, will take you through making a new addition to your wardrobe. Sanaa, our wonderful cooking tutor, has been hosting Facebook Live cooking sessions, which are available to view on our page. You can also go to our website for PDF versions of a number of woodworking projects created by our tutor Graham.
All our classes and workshops continue to be delivered online, and they fill up very quickly. To ensure you don’t miss out, you can: join our mailing list, follow us on Eventbrite and Twitter, and like our Facebook page.
