Isn’t it great to see the sunshine. It brings hope for the future and excitement that we can get seeds sown, looking forward to tasty homegrown fruit and veg in the not too distant future.
There’s been a lot going on with Planet Sutherland in the last few months, particularly on the food growing front. A few of us took part in the Highland Good Food Conversation which has instigated several very exciting projects including: Community Composting, a Food Producers Network, Community Growing and even looking at Greenhouses in the Highlands producing significant volumes of Mediterranean style veg which will help significantly with summer veg food miles.
Sadly, we had to curb our Sutherland Orchard project due to Covid logistical difficulties but we are looking forward to completing the Gledfield School Polytunnel soon.
Other projects on the go include our ongoing film discussion forum, working on building a Highlands & Islands Climate Network, supporting local growing projects and getting going with a Sutherland Carbon Footprint Initiative to help us all reduce our impact on the planet.
Do please join this happy band of folks working together to help the planet. All the joining details are on PlanetSutherland.com.
