Queen’s Green Canopy project

Why not put your postcode in the map (queensgreencanopy.org) by planting your own tree?

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. Christine Mackay, Deputy Lieutenant of Sutherland has been in discussions with Ardgay & District and Creich community councils as well as Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust to present the project and so far the initiative has been very warmly welcomed, with the involvement of schools and community groups. The project aims to show the benefits to the environment (particularly land animals but also fish), and it would be a legacy for future generations.

“I am very grateful for all the good feedback I am getting from this project and I hope as many people as possible get involved”, said Christine Mackay.

The tree planting will be starting in spring 2022. One of the first organisations to join is Kincardine Parish Church, that is planning to plant nine fruit trees in the church car park, to be made available to the community. Individuals are encouraged to participate by planting a tree in their garden, they can then add the details of their tree to the website. If you run a community group and would like to join the Queen’s Green Canopy project you can read all the details on queensgreencanopy.org.
